| About Shining City Artists & Productions |
| |
 |
Shining City Artists & Productions is the natural business evolution of founder Jess Byers' love of music. Jess moved to Portland, OR in 2004 from Missoula, Montana after long scheming to start her own production company in the Pacific Northwest. |

In Montana she worked as the concert promoter for the Missoula Folklore Society where she promoted shows for Patty Larkin, John Gorka, Solas, Holly Near, Karan Casey, Lucy Kaplansky, Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer, Eliza Gilkyson, Edie Carey, Cheryl Wheeler, Kelly Joe Phelps, Jeffrey Foucault, Kris Delmhorst, and many others. She also produced and hosted several shows on Montana Public Radio and worked as a booking agent for Montana singer-songwriters Amy Martin and Jenn Adams.
Jess grew up in the rich music environment of Cambridge, Massachusetts and there became part of the late 90's contemporary singer-songwriter scene. She was involved in the early careers of artists such as Lori McKenna, Kris Delmhorst, Erin McKeown, Jess Klein, Rose Polenzani, and Beth Amsel (who would later become a Shining City artist). Now with Shining City Artists & Productions, Jess Byers is able to stretch from her singer-songwriter roots and bring Portland some of the country's best artists.
Some past and present festivals and organizations that Shining City has collaborated with include: The Pickathon, Pampelmoose LLC, Siren Nation Women's Arts and Music Festival, and Three Pin Productions.
Shining City's name is taken from a lyric in the song Happytown by the late Dave Carter, whose partner Tracy Grammer was one of Shining City's first clients. Dave and Tracy's album Tanglewood Tree (2000) is one of Jess's all-time favorites. |
